❀️ A LITTLE TIME GOES A LONG WAY
To be considered an Active HCHS Volunteer, we ask for a commitment of at least 2 hours per month. Even a couple of hours can make a meaningful difference for the animals in our care.
❀️ HOW WOULD YOU LIKE TO HELP?
Pick as many areas as interest you. You do not have to choose just one, and we can help you explore different volunteer roles over time.
🐾 Not sure where you fit?
That's completely okay. Some volunteers come in knowing exactly what they want to do, while others discover their favorite role after getting started.
πŸ•πŸˆ ANIMAL EXPERIENCE & COMFORT LEVEL
Experience is helpful, but it is not required. We just want to understand what feels comfortable to you so we can set you up for success.
First volunteer experience? That's perfectly okay. Everyone starts somewhere.
πŸ“£ Stay in the loop.
Volunteer opportunities can include regular shelter help, adoption events, community programs, special projects, and occasional last-minute needs. Choosing more than one communication method can help you hear about opportunities that fit your schedule.
πŸ›‘οΈ SAFETY, TRUST & VOLUNTEER AGREEMENT
A few important things help us keep our animals, volunteers, staff, and community safe.
πŸ”Ž Background Check

For the safety of our animals, staff, volunteers, and community, Huntington County Humane Society may conduct a background check as part of the volunteer approval process.

Certain criminal history, including offenses that present a safety concern, may affect volunteer eligibility.
🐾 SAFETY FIRST, ALWAYS.
We want volunteering to be rewarding, fun, and safe. Training, staff direction, and animal-specific restrictions are there to protect both you and the animals in our care.
