BCSAVE - Adoption Application (Beta)

$$TITLE$$

Border Collie Save & Rescue's  #1 interest is in the continued well being of all dogs in our steward after they leave our care.  For this reason, BCSAVE does not do what is commonly known as "open adoptions".  All BCSAVE adopters go through a vetting process in order for us to determine if they are a suitable home for adopting our dogs and to to help better understand which types of dogs the potential adopter is looking for.  Once the vetting process is complete, we will work with the potential adopter in order to best match a dog to their living situation, lifestyle, and preferences.

Be aware that BCSAVE approves applicants to ADOPT from BCSAVE, but that doesn't not mean every applicant is appropriate for every dog.  All BCSAVE dogs are matched to applicants based on things like lifestyle and environment, so even if you are approved to adopt, we may not adopt a specific dog to you.

A lot of dogs that come into BCSAVE are immediately committed to pre-vetted applicants who are waiting on the right dog.  We encourage potential applicants not to wait until the "perfect" dog comes along before starting the process.

Because we are entirely volunteer based, it may take up to 2 weeks to contact you after receiving your application.

ADOPTION PROCESS

  1. Initial Phone Screening: An initial "get to know you" phone call with a BCSAVE volunteer to go over the application, get more details about what the applicant is looking for, answer any questions the applicant has regarding the adoption processes.
  2. Home Check:  After the application and phone interview, we will request a virtual home visit to help insure our Border Collies are going to a suitable home for their particular needs.
  3. Reference Check:  After the application and phone interview, we will check the references regarding any landlord and veterinarian.
  4. Find Your Dog:  It is our goal to find appropriate homes for our dogs and will begin discussing specific dogs and working towards meet & greets with them.
  5. Meet and Adopt: Make arrangement to meet with a dog, and if everything goes as hoped, process the adoption.

Please ask us if you need any assistance or advice in bringing a new dog into your household and we will try and help in any way that we can.

We hope that our relationship with the adopter does not end at the adoption.  We love updates, stories, braggings, tales, yarns, sagas, shenanigans, photos, and videos of all of our former rescue pups in their new furever homes with their new people. Tag us on social media, link to our website and Facebook page, or send us tweets and Snapchats. We love it all!

Adoption Fees
$350 for puppies under 6 months
$100 for seniors over 8 years or with known medical issues
$300 for all other standard adoptions

ADOPTION POLICIES
  • All applicants must be of 18 years or older.
  • BCSAVE does not guarantee any specific dog when you are going through our adoption process.  BCSAVE has a long list of per-approved applicants looking for and waiting on the the right dog to come along.  Many of the current dogs listed in the AVAILBLE section of the website or posted as COMING SOON on social sites may already have a pre-approved adopter.
  1. The process for adoption is once you get approved after the home visit, we schedule another call to talk through what kind of dog you are looking for, let you know who is available at that time and who has a “waiting list”, and set expectations for time frames and next steps.
  2. After the approval process, once we have a dog that is available to adopt, and you are next on that dog’s list and it's a good fit, we will introduce you to the foster to coordinate a meeting.
  • No adoptions will be processed as "gifts".
  • All dogs, unless otherwise specified, come:
         a.  With a current Heartworm Negative Test
         b.  Current on Local Vaccinations
         c.  Spayed/Neutered
         d.  Microchipped
         e.  On a Heartworm, Flea, and Tick preventative
  • BCSAVE cannot make any guarantees concerning the health, habits, temperament, background, or age of any dog being adopted.
  • BCSAVE strives to ensure our dogs are only placed with adopters who we feel are best suited for a specific dog; as a result, BCSAVE may approve an applicant for adoption, but deny them a specific dog or dogs.
  • All adoptions are at the sole discretion of BCSAVE, which reserves the right to deny any applicant for any reason.

Travel Notice

BCSAVE is focusing our limited volunteer resources and time on finding homes for as many of our pups as possible.

Priority will be given to applicants who are local and to those who are willing to travel to meet/adopt a rescue dog in the area the dog is currently fostered (typically within the DFW or Austin area).

If you are not able to travel to either DFW or Austin to adopt, we encourage you to look locally, as it may be weeks or months before we are able to finalize any adoption.

Out of state adopters:  All transportation arrangements and fees are the sole responsibility of the adopter.

Out of State Applicants

If you are not able to travel to either DFW or Austin to adopt, we encourage you to look locally, as it may be weeks or months before we are able to finalize any adoption.

  • BCSAVE is not able to foster dogs outside of Texas, parts of Oklahoma, and parts of Lousiana, except in very specific circumstances.
  • All transportation arrangements and fees are the sole responsibility of the adopter.
  • On occasion, adoptions do not work out. Prior to all out of state adoptions, BCSAVE will require the adopter to have a plan in place for an adopted dog in the unfortunate and rare event that something happens. Typically, this will be an agreement to transport the dog back to BCSAVE in Texas; however, BCSAVE may also allow other arrangements, such as an alternative adopter, to be made on a case by case basis.
