Foster homes provide a temporary safe, loving environment for cats until they are matched with their forever family. Foster homes allow more cats to be saved, by taking cats into your home, loving them, and then letting them go requires a special kind of person. Your role as a foster parent is to prepare cats and kittens for adoption into loving homes, providing transportation to medical appointments and adoption events, and teaching life skills, trust, and love. Our goal at Cats Home is to ensure that recently rescued cats and kittens are matched with the best foster families to meet their needs, so everyone is set up for success. Information that you submit will be used for fostering evaluation purposes and will remain confidential. Please note that by completing this application you are expressing interest in providing a temporary foster home to one of our cats; however, we cannot guarantee foster placement.

Introducing cats to new environments or other animals is stressful for most cats. The transition to their new space, new people, and other animals, as well as getting used to their new litter box and scratching post, tends to be the least stressful for them and have the most lasting success if they have a smaller "safe" room to start in before having access to the whole house and other animals. Cats Home Foundation does our best to ensure that all cats are examined by a veterinarian prior to being placed into foster homes; however, this is not always possible. Ensuring that your animals are kept separate from foster cats, as well as ensuring that proper cleaning protocols and frequent hand washing are being followed significantly helps reduce the risk of illness being passed on to people or animals in the foster home. (Please note that some conditions cannot be detected during a physical examination by a veterinarian or are not apparent at that time. This is why Cats Home Foundation requires that all foster cats are kept separate from existing animals for a minimum of 14 days after their arrival. By becoming a foster parent with Cats Home Foundation you will be responsible for transporting your foster cats to and from their veterinary appointments, both those that are scheduled and those that are emergencies. (Cats Home Foundation is partnered with several veterinary clinics in Calgary. Please note that only partnered veterinary clinics can be used for Cats Home Foundation cats and all appointments and associated costs must be approved by Cats Home Foundation prior to the appointment.
