Position Summary

The Humane Society & SPCA of Hancock County is seeking a dependable, detail-oriented candidate to fill the role of Animal Control Dispatcher to support the Animal Control team.

Essential Job Functions

Respond to reports of dogs running at large; attempt to locate, capture, and impound any dog found running at large within Hancock County.
Respond to reports of any sick or injured stray domestic animal; attempt to locate, capture and provide appropriate care.
Attempt to solve neighborhoods animal-related complains in a positive manner.
Investigate complaints concerning dogs running at large and vicious or dangerous dogs.
Pick-up and dispose of deceased domestic animals located in the Findlay City limits.
Issue citations for violations of Ohio Revised Code statutes pertaining to restraint and licensing of dogs.
Perform dog license checks; issue warnings or citations to persons found in violation of dog licensing requirement.
Prepare court documents for designating a dog as a vicious, dangerous, or nuisance dog as defined in Ohio Revised Code.
Investigate and prepare prosecution charge requests for violations of Ohio Revised Code statutes pertaining to requirements for owners of a designated vicious, dangerous, or nuisance dog.
Investigate dog bite incidents and issue quarantine requirements and appropriate citations when necessary; work with the County Health Department with any follow-up investigations as required.
Investigate reports of animal cruelty; prepare prosecution charges when determined necessary.
Testify in court when necessary for prosecution of charges.
Complete intake procedures of impounded animals, including appropriate documentation.
Provide care to impounded animals including feeding, watering, cleaning, and administering medications and vaccinations.
Answer phone calls and provide customer service to persons purchasing dog licenses, relinquishing animals, and reclaiming impounded animals.

Requirements

Must be at least 21 years old.
Duties require the ability to work standing for extended periods, stoop, kneel, bend, reach and lift up to 50 pounds.
Must be able to work in various conditions, including indoors and outdoors, in inclement weather, and potentially unsanitary environments.
Must be able to maintain a professional appearance and demeanor at all times.
Ability to analyze, process, and execute appropriate course of action in potentially stressful encounters.
Must have a valid state of Ohio driver's license and must maintain insurability in accordance with organization policy.
Must be able to read, write, and speak English and possess effective oral and written communication skills.
Must be able to work independently and as a team; establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, law enforcement agencies and the public.
Must have the ability to learn, understand, and properly enforce statutes and ordinances pertaining to animal control and animal cruelty.
Must be able to successfully complete Humane Agent training course (training scheduled and provided by organization.)
Must be comfortable handling dogs and cats, including potentially vicious or dangerous animals. Must be able to utilize proper handling equipment in a safe and effective manner.
Must be available for on-call emergency response outside of business hours.

Schedule
20 - 40 hours per week. Shedule will be discussed at an interview.
