Franklin County Humane Society's Trap, Neuter, and Return (TNR) Program
Serves free-roaming, community or feral cats in Frankfort and Franklin County, Kentucky only.
We agree to provide spay or neuter services to free-roaming, community or feral cats.
The TNR Program includes spay or neuter surgery, rabies and FVRCP vaccines,
flea and tick prevention, and mandatory ear-tipping.
FCHS does not provide relocation assistance for community cats.
I UNDERSTAND:
- Surgery poses a risk to the cat(s). All appropriate precautions are taken to mitigate that risk. Neither the TNR provider nor FCHS will be held responsible should the cat(s) not survive surgery or experience complications afterwards.
- TNR does not provide follow-up veterinary care for injuries or illnesses unrelated to TNR procedures.
- All cats will have the tip of their ear (usually the left) removed under general anesthesia.
- All cats must be returned to the location where s/he was taken. FCHS TNR is not responsible for fostering, adopting out or otherwise finding homes for cats or kittens encountered during trapping.
- Assistance with trapping or transportation is extremely limited and cannot be guaranteed.
- In the event the attending veterinarian believes a cat is suffering, in very poor health or otherwise unsuitable to return to a free-roaming lifestyle, a TNR staff member will contact the caregiver to discuss recommendations up to and including humane euthanasia.
- It is very important that caregivers provide accurate contact information should TNR staff need to call.
- Cats can be released at their home location on the day following surgery (typically Mondays).
I AGREE:
- To see that this cat has food, water, necessary care and shelter on a regular basis when returned after surgery.
- To ensure loaned traps/carriers are returned timely to Franklin County Humane Society.
- To provide a warm and quiet environment with food and water if I pick up cats on Sunday.
Whenever possible, the cat feeder/caretaker/guardian is asked to help with trapping and transporting cats, and with the financial cost of veterinarian services ($15 per cat). Payment is not required; Donations are welcome. Checks should be made payable to Franklin County Humane Society and indicate TNR Program on the memo line of the check. To submit online go to Donate
