RELEASE FROM LIABILITY
By entering my full name (or our full names for volunteers under 18) below, I agree that I desire to participate in volunteer work at Homeless Animal Rescue Team of Maine, Inc. (HART of Maine) located at 302 Range Road, Cumberland, Maine 04021, its foster homes, or at any of its various events located outside of the shelter. In such capacity, it is my understanding that I may come in contact with cats. I fully realize it is entirely possible that such close contact with these animals could result in injury to my person (body and/or clothing). I may be bitten or scratched or clothing may be torn. I also understand that there are diseases that can be spread from cat to people (ie ringworm, roundworm, etc) and there may be instances where people can spread diseases to cats.
Assuming that the foregoing could occur (though not necessarily limited to the foregoing), I hereby agree not to hold HART of Maine, its staff, other volunteers, agents, or successors or assigns of said corporation, liable for any injuries or damage incurred while performing volunteer work.
It is my understanding that the staff and other volunteers of HART of Maine have been instructed not to expose any volunteer to animals that have shown any noticeable degree of unstable or unfriendly behavior. I understand that even the most docile or otherwise good-natured animal could become hostile; thus, I shall be on guard at all times to protect myself from injury and will not interact with a cat in such a way to exacerbate this behavior. I will follow the direction of the staff and leadership of HART of Maine and act in the best interest of HART of Maine and its cats and kittens.
I also acknowledge that in working as a volunteer, I may be exposed to hazardous materials used for cleaning.
I acknowledge that I have read the foregoing and have discussed it with a representative of HART of Maine and understand that this is a release of liability against that organization, its staff, volunteers and agents, as well as any successors or assigns of said corporation.
