Are you familiar with the specific needs of the species you are applying for? * Some animals have lots of grooming requirements, issues with respiratory systems, teeth issues, some birds may be known to be more sassy so these are all things to keep in mind.
Why are you interested in adopting this particular animal/s? * Is it for companionship? Maybe something for the children with the parents providing the main care? Be honest with us, we truly just want to make sure that we can pair you with the most suitable animal :)

On average, how many hours per day will your pet be left alone? * Hours you're at work, maybe during school hours etc
How many hours per day will the animal be allowed supervised out of enclosure time? (if applicable) * This does not have to be a massive amount. Just 30mins a day for some animals is more than enough, other animals like large birds may need more out of cage time depending on how large their enclosure
How will you ensure proper temperature, humidity and lighting (if required for species)? * Air purifier works great for rats and guinea pigs, even birds. Do you have aircon or a cool space? Maybe some misters for birds or other exotics. Use of ice bricks is great for summer
Are you prepared to provide species appropriate bedding and substrate? * Fleece, woodshavings, puppy pads, newspaper, paper cat litter are all great options. Feel free to discuss with us on what we use and we can guide you.
Are you aware of species specific dietary requirements? * Hay, pellets & veggies for guinea pigs. Pellets, seed, veggies for parrots. Pellets and forage for rats
Are you financially prepared for specialized food and supplements? * Exotics tend to cost more not only in food, but in vet care. Ensure you have enough $ saved for any emergencies and ongoing food supplies
Are you aware that many small exotic pets require a specialized vet? * Specialist vets are not easy to find! Please ensure you research where your nearest one is and be aware they are more expensive than a regular vet.
Are you prepared to provide proper daily enrichment? * Enrichment helps with boredom, unwanted behaviours and provides much needed stimulation. Foraging, chew items, climbing are all forms of enrichment.
Does this species have specific social needs that you are aware of? * Are they solitary, require companions etc.
