I understand that all animals in the Long Way Home Adoptables foster program remain the legal property of the rescue. Foster caregivers agree to bring the animal to veterinary appointments, adoption events, or check-ins when requested (if available or work with the rescue to come up with a solution, date, and/or time). Additionally, foster caregivers agree to return the animal immediately upon request. *
I understand that foster caregivers are expected to make a good faith effort to have their foster dog attend adoption events as offered, provided that an event is scheduled and located within the foster caregiver’s city. Participation in adoption events is an important part of helping our animals gain visibility and find permanent homes. However, Long Way Home Adoptables recognizes that not every animal is suited for an event environment. The rescue may determine that a foster animal should not attend events due to factors such as age, medical needs, behavioral concerns, or stress. We are committed to supporting our foster caregivers and are happy to work with volunteers to coordinate transportation or other assistance when possible. Foster caregivers are encouraged to communicate with the rescue if they need help getting their foster animal to or from an event. *

As a foster caregiver I am to provide proper care for my foster animal, including providing adequate food and clean water, safe indoor housing, appropriate exercise and enrichment, and positive socialization. *	I agree I do not agree
Foster animals must be housed indoors unless otherwise approved by Long Way Home Adoptables. Dogs must be supervised at all times, including in a securely fenced area. Dogs may not be off-leash outside of a securely fenced area, and if a dog is new to the rescue, it is recommended that they be walked with a leash and a harness during their decompression period. Cats must remain indoors at all times. All foster animals must be transported safely in a secure carrier or inside an enclosed vehicle. *	I agree I do not agree
I am responsible for administering heartworm and flea/tick prevention provided by LWHA. These preventatives are distributed by the supplies coordinator for administration on either the 1st or the 15th of each month, and I will be notified when it is ready for pick up. *	I agree I do not agree
Foster animals should be fed scheduled and properly proportioned meals appropriate for their age and needs. In general, free-range feeding leads to problems with obesity and associated conditions such as arthritis and other medical ailments. It is only approved on a case by case basis if required for medical reasons. *	I agree I do not agree
Long Way Home Adoptables will work with our fosters to coordinate veterinary care and medication administration for foster animals. Foster caregivers may not seek outside veterinary treatment or administer any medications without prior approval from the rescue. Giving medications without guidance can be dangerous, especially due to potential interactions with other medications or underlying conditions. Unauthorized veterinary expenses will not be reimbursed. *	I agree I do not agree
Foster animals may carry contagious illnesses or unknown medical conditions. Long Way Home Adoptables recommends isolating any new shelter pet in your home for 10–14 days to reduce the risk of spreading communicable or zoonotic illnesses to resident pets or people. If I choose to immediately integrate my foster animal without the recommended two-week isolation period, I acknowledge that I am doing so at my own risk. I understand that foster caregivers are responsible for ensuring their resident pets are current on vaccinations, including but not limited to rabies and core vaccines. I acknowledge that interactions between foster animals and personal pets occur at the foster’s own risk, and Long Way Home Adoptables cannot guarantee the health, temperament, or behavior of any foster animal. *	I agree I do not agree
Animals may behave unpredictably. Bites, scratches, or property damage may occur. Foster caregivers must supervise interactions with children and other people and must notify Long Way Home Adoptables immediately of any bites or injuries. *	I agree I do not agree
All foster animals remain the property of Long Way Home Adoptables and may only be adopted through the rescue. All potential adopters must be approved by Long Way Home Adoptables, complete all required adoption paperwork, and the animal must be spayed or neutered prior to adoption. This policy applies to all adoptions, including those involving the foster caregiver or members of the foster caregiver’s household. Foster animals may not participate in meet-and-greets with potential adopters without prior approval from the Adoption Coordinator. We greatly value the insight of our foster caregivers and encourage their participation in the adoption process. Foster caregivers often know their foster animal best, and their input helps us determine the most appropriate home. However, all final adoption decisions and placement outcomes are made by Long Way Home Adoptables. I understand that this release includes any claims related to bodily injury, illness, death, or property damage that may occur during volunteer activities, whether caused by negligence or otherwise. *
Long Way Home Adoptables is very diligent when selecting which animals attend events or participate in volunteer activities. We prioritize the safety and well-being of our animals, volunteers, and the public at all times. However, volunteers should understand that animals can be unpredictable. Even well-socialized animals may bite, scratch, jump, or behave unexpectedly. By volunteering, you acknowledge and accept these inherent risks associated with working with animals. *
In consideration of receiving any Long Way Home Adoptables foster animal(s), I, as a foster caregiver, herby release Long Way Home Adoptables, its officers, agents and employees from all claims of injury or damage that a fostered dog/cat/other may cause me or my property. I agree to hold harmless, defend and indemnify Long Way Home Adoptables, it’s officers, agents and employees from any and all claims of liability to other people for injuries. *
If for any reason, I do not comply with all provisions of this agreement, I agree to return the fostered animal to Long Way Home Adoptables upon demand of the enforcement agent. If I refuse to return the fostered animal to Long Way Home Adoptables upon demand of the enforcement agent, I understand that Long Way Home Adoptables reserves the right to retrieve them as legal owner of the animal. *
