Foster Parent Application and Information

Thank you for contacting us in relation to fostering. Cara was founded in 2011 by Lorraine McEvoy, Lorna Dunne and Karla Mitchell. Since 2011 we have grown massively, mainly to meet demand. Our main purpose has always been to give priority to 'sick , injured, vulnerable, elderly and very young' dogs. For the majority of time we only have basic information on the dogs entering our care. This is where the foster home plays a huge part. We need you to get to know the dog well enough to know the type of home that will best suit them. It's your job to help the dog become comfortable and used to being part of a family home. Sometimes dogs carry emotional scars, these can take longer to heal. When you collect your foster dog we will also give you their adoption pack, this will be used once they are ready to be rehomed. We will also give you a supply of food, cara collar and name tag, slip lead. Basic foster duties include vet visits for vaccinations, microchip and spay/neuter if over 6 months old. We have a number of vet practices around Ireland we work with. We ask that you gather as much video and photos as you can, these help us put together their rehoming profile. Once we place the dog/pup in your home for fostering, they can only be rehomed directly through and by us, however we welcome and encourage fosters input and opinion on the dogs new home. A home check will be done with your permission prior to fostering in the same manner we home check their forever homes. All foster homes must have a fully secured garden area which is simply to ensure their safety. We look forward receiving your application. Kind Regards, the Cara Rescue Dogs team.
