Marion County Illinois Animal Control Bite Report

to be completed by medical professionals or law enforcement

Illinois law requires animal bites to humans to be reported to the local Animal Control Administrator. Under the Illinois Animal Control Act, 510 ILCS 5/13(a-15), any person having knowledge that a person has been bitten by an animal must notify the Animal Control Administrator, or Deputy Administrator when applicable, within 24 hours. This reporting requirement applies to healthcare professionals and facilities that become aware of an animal bite while treating a patient, including hospitals, emergency departments, physicians, and urgent care providers. Timely reporting allows Animal Control to initiate the legally required rabies observation and confinement process and protect both the bite victim and the public.
